ADHAR - HOME AWAY FORM HOME FOR Intellectual Disabled Adults.
Intellectual Disability has been the most neglected area of disabilities on account of limited public awareness and lack of Government support. Intellectual Disability has no treatment in medical science. This condition cannot be cured but can be managed by constant monitoring and medicines. It’s a mental disability and not a disease. A mentally challenged person needs support throughout his / her life. It’s very difficult for him / her to become completely independent in terms of physical, mental & financial capabilities. Hence, old parents of these mentally challenged persons are in nagging worry that
“After us what?
Who will take care of my special child?”
ADHAR, an Association of the Parents of the Mentally Retarded Children, has been established expressly to address the above problems faced by the parents.
The Association of Parents of Special Adults is working for the benefit of the Special Adults.
ADHAR has built two residential complexes towards fulfilling this objective at Badlapur and Nashik.
It works in the spirit of Trusteeship and is managed by a Board of Trustees consisting 10 trustees of which 7 trustees are parents of mentally retarded children.
At present we have 330 Special Adults (242 male & 88 female) under our care.
Adhar is providing them with lifelong care, training and rehabilitation facilities with the help of Psychologist, Psychiatrist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Medical Officers, Social Workers, Special Teachers, Care Takers and other Office Staff.
In the year 1990, around 25 parents of Special Adults children came together under the leadership of our Adhar’s founder Late Shri. M. G. Gore to find out a permanent solution for their constant worry of “After us what? Who will take care of our special children?” Thus Adhar was born with the concept of a residential institution taking lifelong care and rehabilitation of Special Adults for the benefit of parents and their family.
Adhar does not receive any grant or aid from the Government.
It runs purely on parents’ contributions and donations.
Adhar has been extending 25% of financial subsidy to all the parents
and in addition to this additional subsidy has been given to parents which is depending on their economic conditions. Further for any infrastructural development these parents never been burden.
Currently ADHAR is providing direct subsidy of Rs. 3000/- to each parents which cost Rs. 1.18 crore PA excluding additional subsidy.
(Rs. 3000 Subsidy pm X 330 Residents X 12 Months = Rs. 118,80,000)
ADHAR have 80G and FCRA as well.
We are taking this opportunity to appeal you to sponsor one child for Rs. 3000/- per month under the co-parenting scheme.
